Different Degrees Conferred, Doctors getting Degrees from Abroad, Crosspathy Practice and Mixopathy

A young woman from Navi Mumbai finishes a medical degree in Russia and returns home wanting to practise. A homoeopath in a small town writes an antibiotic on his prescription pad. An Ayurvedic doctor runs a clinic that offers both herbal medicines and injections. Each case raises a different question: is a foreign degree enough, and may a practitioner of one system use the medicines of another? These are the last questions of the module, and the ones courts have actually decided.

In two minutes

A degree helps a person practise only if it is a recognised qualification and he is registered; a foreign degree needs recognition or a screening route; and a practitioner of one system may prescribe the medicines of another (crosspathy or mixopathy) only where a law, rule or government notification authorises it, failing which it risks being unlawful and negligent.
