Commissions for the Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005

Suppose a child at a Mumbai school is caned so badly that the parents are too frightened to complain, or a child in a shelter home is not given proper food. Who can step in, even if nobody files a case? Criminal courts act after a complaint and civil courts act on a petition, but neither is a standing watchman for children. The Commissions for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005 creates that watchman, at the national level and in each State.
