The Constituent Assembly was born out of the Cabinet Mission Plan's failure, not its success — and everything you study as “the Constitution” was argued out, clause by clause, in the debates that body held.

The Constituent Assembly, created under the Cabinet Mission Plan and first meeting in December 1946, debated and adopted the Constitution of India over roughly three years, under Dr. Rajendra Prasad's presidency and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar's chairmanship of the Drafting Committee, producing a document defined by its length, its blend of borrowed and original features, and its Preamble.
