ECI Scrutiny on Social Media
A rally can be watched by an observer standing at the back. A political advertisement running only to a targeted slice of one platform's users may never be seen by anyone outside that slice at all — including the election officials meant to check it. This is the specific enforcement problem the Election Commission has had to design new tools for.

The Election Commission of India has responded to social media's growing influence by extending Model Code enforcement to online content, requiring pre-certification of political advertisements on these platforms, working with a voluntary code of ethics agreed with social media companies, monitoring election-related expenditure on digital campaigning, and requiring candidates to disclose their social media accounts.
