The Act of Settlement did not create anything new and glamorous — it drew boundary lines, and boundary lines are exactly what the previous eight years had been missing.

The Act of Settlement, 1781 was Parliament's direct response to the Cossijurah and Kamaluddin conflicts, clarifying that the Supreme Court at Calcutta could not interfere with the Governor-General-in-Council acting in its official capacity or with the Company's revenue administration and Sadar Adalats.
