UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH)

A president forced from power, a police force that could not hold the streets, and a Security Council resolution within weeks, that was Haiti in early 2004. MINUSTAH went in to restore order and support elections, led for the first time in UN history by a Latin American military command. Its thirteen years in Haiti became one of this syllabus's clearest illustrations of a mission judged not only by whether it kept the peace, but by the harm its own personnel were later found to have caused.
