Inter — State Migrant Worker sand types of workers (Audio visual, Mines, Beedi and Cigar, Construction, etc)
Every festival season the trains out of Lokmanya Tilak Terminus carry thousands of workers going home to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar for a few days, and every year some of them lose a day's wages, a ration entitlement or a place in the queue for a hospital bed because they belong to 'somewhere else'. The OSH Code tries to fix this with a short Part on inter-State migrant workers, and then adds four more short Parts for groups with their own dangers: film crews, miners, beedi rollers and building workers. What does each Part actually promise?
In two minutes
Part II (ss.59 to 65) gives inter-State migrant workers suitable conditions, equal benefits, a yearly journey allowance, portable welfare and a helpline; Parts III to VI add a written agreement for audio-visual workers, a sole manager and age bar for mines, licensed premises for beedi and cigar work, and a medical-risk bar for building work.
